Who is Robyn Malcolm’s partner?
Peter Mullan was born on 2 November 1959 in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, and grew up in Glasgow. He is one of Scotland’s best-known screen actors: his performance in My Name Is Joe won him the Best Actor award at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival. As a director he won the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival for The Magdalene Sisters (2002).
His work in Top of the Lake earned him Emmy and Critics’ Choice nominations, and he has since appeared in Westworld, Ozark and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
How Robyn Malcolm and Peter Mullan met
Malcolm played Anita in Top of the Lake, Jane Campion’s mystery series, and Mullan was also in the cast. They met on that production and have since shared the screen twice more: in the western Hostiles (2017) and in the New Zealand drama After the Party (2023), which Malcolm co-created and led.

A long-distance relationship
The couple do not live in the same country full time. In a July 2025 interview with 1News, Malcolm said she splits her time between New Zealand and Scotland, and described how they approach the distance: “You go, well, I love you, so we’ll make it work. It doesn’t have to be conventional.”
When 1News spoke to her again in September 2026 about her menopause documentary, it referred to her partner being in Glasgow, so the relationship was still going as of September 2026.
