Jim Beam Homegrown 2027 is on Saturday 3 April 2027 at Claudelands Oval in Hamilton, and Fat Freddy’s Drop, Sir Dave Dobbyn and Shapeshifter lead the first line-up announcement. It is the festival’s 20th year, its second in Hamilton, and more acts are still to be announced.
Homegrown bills itself as Aotearoa’s largest all-Kiwi music festival, and every act on the poster is from here. This guide covers the 2027 line-up, tickets, the age question and what changed when the festival left the Wellington waterfront, as of 2 November 2026.
When and where is Homegrown 2027?

Chief executive Andrew Tuck said on the date announcement: “We always believed Hamilton was the right move for Homegrown, and 2026 proved it.” He told 1News: “We’ve got bigger plans for 2027.”

Homegrown 2027 tickets and prices
Homegrown 2027 loyal fan tickets sold out within 30 minutes on 5 May 2026, the venue reported, and super early bird tickets were gone within hours the same day. A final early bird release for general admission and VIP followed on 28 May. Organisers have not published 2027 ticket prices, and fans are told to pre-register at homegrown.net.nz for the next release.
Tuck warned at the time: “If today showed anything, it’s that tickets won’t hang around.” Tickets are sold through the festival’s own site, so check there first before trusting any resale listing.
Is Homegrown R18?
Tuck says the 2027 festival has “something for everyone from 18 to 81”, and the 2026 festival guide listed a passport, NZ driver licence or Kiwi Access 18+ card as accepted ID. The organisers have not yet published the 2027 age and entry conditions, so check the festival site before buying for anyone under 18.
What time does Homegrown start, and how do you get there?
Gate and set times for Homegrown 2027 have not been published yet. At the first Hamilton festival on 14 March 2026, gates opened at noon and the event ran from 1pm to 11pm. Entry was through Gate 3 off Brooklyn Road, and Hamilton city buses were free with a festival ticket.
The 2026 guide from Claudelands also listed park and ride from the Rotokauri Transport Hub and the University of Waikato, an Uber drop-off at the Settlement Centre on Boundary Road, and limited parking on site. There was no re-entry, bars were cashless, and glass and BYO alcohol were banned. Expect a similar set-up in 2027, but wait for the official 2027 guide.
Why did Homegrown move from Wellington to Hamilton?
Homegrown left the Wellington waterfront after the March 2025 festival because the site had no room to grow. RNZ reported that organisers looked at nine cities before choosing Hamilton over Dunedin, and that Claudelands offers three times the space and capacity for up to 50,000 people.
The festival had grown from about 10,000 to 23,000 fans across five stages on the Wellington waterfront. “We’ve used every little bit of space,” Tuck told RNZ. The final Wellington edition in March 2025 was also Shihad’s final gig.
How did the first Hamilton Homegrown go?
The first Hamilton edition on 14 March 2026 drew more than 25,000 people, according to an independent analysis by Fresh Info published by venue company H3. The same report put the boost to Hamilton’s economy at almost $10 million.
Homegrown past years
Homegrown began on 26 April 2008. It grew out of X*Air, an extreme sports event with live music that started at Claudelands before moving to Wellington, so the 2027 festival is a return to where the idea began.
| Year | Venue | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| 2008 | Wellington waterfront | First Homegrown, 26 April |
| 2012 and 2013 | Wellington waterfront | Sold out at 17,000 |
| 2025 | Wellington waterfront | Last Wellington festival, Shihad’s final gig |
| 2026 | Claudelands Oval, Hamilton | First Hamilton edition, around 25,000 people |
| 2027 | Claudelands Oval, Hamilton | 20th year, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Sir Dave Dobbyn, Shapeshifter |
